Company offers day-and-date theatrical and online releases

LONDON — Blighty arthouse exhib-distrib Curzon Artifical Eye has launched its own video-on-demand service, which will see it offer day-and-date theatrical and online releases of indie arthouse fare to users in the U.K. and Ireland.

The initiative, dubbed Curzon On Demand, will launch Friday with Mathieu Amalric’s burlesque comedy “On Tour,” winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes earlier this year, and Brit drama “In Our Name,” helmed by Brian Welsh, and starring BIFA winner Joanne Froggatt.

Both pics will be streamed on the service, available in HD on laptops, TV and mobiles at the same time as their theatrical release in Blighty.

The VOD service aims to allow access to pics not always available in cinemas outside London or Dublin or that only have a limited release.

Films will be programmed specifically for the site, in line with theatrical releases, and will also offer films available exclusively online in addition to premieres and Q&As.

All films will be available to customers for seven days and the site also features an online store for DVDs and film merchandise.
