ABC taps two more pilots

TV network orders 'True Blue,' 'Matadors'; 'Questor' eyed

ABC is continuing to move quickly on its pilot pickups, adding two more drama orders on Thursday.

Drama “True Blue” revolves around a group of San Francisco homicide detectives who reunite to solve the murder of one of their own. Jon Feldman, Chris Brancato and Bert Salke exec produce the ABC Studios project; the trio collaborated on the story and pilot script.

ABC’s other drama, “Matadors,” involves two feuding families in Chicago, one of which is prominent in the District Attorney’s Office while the other runs an influential law firm. Jack Orman wrote the pilot and exec produces for Sony Pictures TV.

The two pickups bring ABC’s pilot tally for the week to eight, following the orders of two dramas and a comedy on Tuesday and three dramas on Wednesday.

Separately, Imagine Television confirmed Thursday that it is developing a drama project with Rod Roddenberry, son of the late “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry.

“The Questor Tapes” is a remake of a pilot Gene Roddenberry developed for NBC that eventually aired as a two-hour movie in 1974. “Questor” revolves around an android with incomplete memory tapes who decides to search for his creator and his ultimate purpose. Project has a lingering cult appeal for sci-fi and fantasy buffs.

Showrunner Tim Minear (“Dollhouse”) is in talks to board “Questor.”

My father always felt that ‘Questor’ was the project that got away,” Roddenberry said.
