ABC has shown confidence in “Cougar Town” with an order for two additional episodes.
Move brings the season order to 24 and cements the Courteney Cox starrer as a Wednesday staple in the Alphabet’s comedy block. Show has been performing well at 9:30 following “Modern Family,” the season’s top new comedy.
Cougar Town” is averaging a 3.3 rating/8 share in the 18-49 demo and 8.0 million viewers overall per episode.
Modern Family” and Patricia Heaton starrer “The Middle” had previously been upped to 24 episodes from 22.
Numbers for “Cougar Town” and “Modern Family” may take a hit, however, starting Jan. 27 when Fox brings reality juggernaut “American Idol” to the 9 p.m. slot for its hourlong results show. “Idol” premieres at 8 p.m. Wednesday and stays in the earlier timeslot for two weeks.
Cox, David Arquette and Bill Lawrence are exec producers. Show is produced by ABC Studios.
