Your hardest decision as showrunner?
Your favorite moment as a showrunner?
(CBS Entertainment prexy) Nina Tassler’s reaction to the pilot. It was truly a blissful moment.
What’s your reaction when you’re recognized by a fan of show?
Ummmm. I’m lucky if I’m recognized by my family.
Your biggest fight with the network?
We haven’t had a ton of fights with the network. We’ve had a few with broadcast Standards & Practices, and it’s usually over sexual content.
Your favorite “happy accident” in writing or producing the show?
Having Cary’s character take mushrooms in one episode. It was originally supposed to be Kalinda leaving a bar tipsy.
Your best collaborative moment on the set or with a network?
Encouraging Julianna Margulies to do the show.
Which shows have influenced your show?
Always “The Sopranos.” (I know that’s not original, but it’s true). A bit of “L.A. Law.” “Breaking Bad.” “The Wire.” “Deadwood.”
“I wanted to give up when …”
I see every single first cut of an episode.
What would you want to say in an Emmy acceptance speech, but won’t?
“I’m the king of the world!”
