Reactions: Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg

Best screenplay, film

The impetus for “The Kids Are All Right” came from the personal experience of scribes Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg.

“Lisa and I had been friends for a long time,” Blumberg said. “We both sort of represented two different sides to the same question. Lisa had considered having a child with a sperm donor and I had been a sperm donor in college, and we kind of wondered what would happen down the road if all those people met.”

As for celebrating the news of the pic’s four Globe noms, including screenplay honors, Blumberg said: “I will probably have a slightly more expensive glass or bottle of wine than I normally have.”
