Scott Franklin, Brian Oliver on the film's best picture nod
“Black Swan” producer Scott Franklin said he’s happy that the hybrid nature of the psychological thriller hasn’t kept it from gaining award-season traction with critics and Globes voters.
“The performances were without a doubt amazing, but it is nice to see the film to get noticed as well,” he said. “Even though I don’t think it is a horror film it does have horror elements and I think the horror-genre elements get a bad rap. I think it’s more in the execution and that’s really a credit to the cast and Darren (Aronofsky’s) directing.”
Producer Brian Oliver said he marvels at helmer Darren Aronofsky’s skill at making artsy commercial fare.
“Darren Aronofsky found a way to take, on its face, an artistic, artsy movie and turn it into a more broad thriller,” Oliver said. “He can dance in both worlds.”
