'Newhart,' 'I Spy' highlight 'Modern Family' actor's faves
Ricky Gervais | Ty Burrell | Sarah Silverman | Phil Rosenthal | Ben Silverman | Taylor Holland
Wow, this is a very difficult decision. Made all the more difficult by my horrible memory and low attention span, but I’m going to dig deep …
From 8 to 8:30, I’m going with “Newhart.” I’m thinking family-friendly but still smart.
From 8:30 to 9, “The Office” (American or British, both hilarious to me in different ways) — and still ramping up.
From 9 to 10 would be “I Spy,” which is still, to me, the most fun I’ve ever had watching television. Robert Culp and Bill Cosby give performances that make me want to get out of acting, and they did it almost 50 years ago! The list of locations was so romantic and extensive. Kind of like a Joni Mitchell song, it used to make me wonder what the rest of the world was like. They both gave such easy performances too, that it made being a spy seem like the only cool job on earth. I mean, aside from being my bodyguard, obviously. I am my own bodyguard, by the way. I taught myself a much faster form of Tai Chi and combine it with a series of confusing riddles.
“The Larry Sanders Show”
From 10 to 10:30, I’m going with “The Larry Sanders Show,” obviously.
“Monty Pythons Flying Circus”
And from 10:30 to 11, I’m going with “Monty Python’s Flying Circus.” I have left out so many of my favorite shows, actors, writers and robots that it embarrasses me, but I have to write something down in the end. I’m sorry.
Ty Burrell received his first Emmy nomination this year for supporting comedy actor on “Modern Family.”
