Undertones celebrating a digital summer

Feargal Sharkey is today known as the head of the British music trade group UK Music, but three decades ago he was the lead singer in the feisty Irish punk-pop band the Undertones. If you missed the band’s five wonderful albums (four studio sets and a hits collection) on previous CD releases, you’ll be able to pick them up online when Union Square Music re-releases them digitally on June 28.

The ‘Tones released countless bouncy singles in a post-Ramones bubblegum mode, including “Teenage Kicks” (the late BBC DJ John Peel’s fave tune ever, and that’s saying something), “Jimmy Jimmy,” “Get Over You” and “Wednesday Week.” But ’tis the season for their wonderful “Here Comes the Summer,” seen above in a live clip from a vintage documentary. Everybody pogo!
