As reported on Entertainment Weekly’s website, James “King of the World” Cameron has committed to directing a 3D film that will chronicle the Black Eyed Peas worldwide tour. According to EW, the Peas’ will.i.am told Vibe magazine that “we have the biggest director, because we are the biggest group on the planet.”
Cameron, the director behind all-time b.o. champ (and ultra-expensive) “Avatar,” which has grossed more than $2.7 billion worldwide, as well as such blockbusters as “Aliens” and “Terminator 2,” might not be the most logical choice for what would be assumed as a run-and-gun concert doc, or anything that doesn’t involve aliens and cutting-edge technology. But the Black Eyed peas are supposedly known for the sci-fi trappings of their stage shows.
Now if the notoriously painstaking filmmaker can get the film finished within a decade, less than the amount of time between the release of Cameron’s “Titanic” and “Avatar,” then the Peas might still be together when the doc hits the theaters.
