Still incarcerated for the 2003 murder of actress Lana Clarkson, producer Phil Spector will soon have a new album in stores — one featuring his vocalist wife.
Rachelle Spector’s “Out of My Chelle” will be issued digitally on June 8 and released on Genius 4Ever Records (distributed by Rocket Science/RED). Judging from samples made available to the press, the album pushes a backdated, lightweight pop style, miles removed from the extravagant “Wall of Sound” the producer flexed on his ’60s and ’70s hits. The album is his first full-length project in 30 years.
A press release announcing the album gives some of the couple’s back story. Rachelle met her husband-to-be, who is 40 years her senior,
at his West Hollywood hangout Dan Tana’s in 2003. Newly arrived from Beaver Falls, Penn., “she had no idea who Spector was, in terms of his stature in the industry, nor was she aware of the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman at his home a few months earlier.” She married Spector, whom she describes as “witty, smart and cute,” three years later. Her album was completed between his first and second trials.
“Phil is actually far away, but he’s still the shining light in my life, and I can always feel him here with me,” she adds in the release.
