Lady Gaga collaborator RedOne was named songwriter of the year and Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” carried away song of the year honors at the BMI Pop Music Awards ceremony, held Tuesday at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Writer-producer RedOne (Morocco-born Nadir Khayat) took home his accolades for work on Gaga’s “Just Dance,” “Love Game” and “Poker Face” and Sean Kingston’s “Fire Burning.”
Adding another trophy to a shelf groaning with recent kudos, 20-year-old Swift became the youngest cleffer to collect the song of the year nod.
Warner-Tamerlane Publishing was cited as publisher of the year.
John Fogerty was feted as the performance rights org’s BMI Icon. He performed a selection of his Creedence Clearwater Revival and solo hits with a band that included sons Shane and Tyler Fogerty. Geffen artist Orianthi kicked off the evening’s entertainment.
