Rapper B.o.B. tops album chart

His 'Adventures' sells 84,000 units in a slow week

Boosted by a powerhouse single, rapper B.o.B. leaped onto the national album chart at No. 1 this week.

Grand Hustle/Atlantic set “B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray” bowed with initial sales of 84,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week ending Sunday. Atlanta-bred B.o.B. (Bobby Ray Simmons) dominated the U.S. singles chart recently with the hit track “Nothin’ On You.”

New set is the biggest item in a fairly soft week in the top 10. No release came close to topping 100,000 units sold, with all holdover titles reflecting declines. In all, four new sets reached the top 10 with unimpressive numbers.

Still basking somewhat in the afterglow of the Academy of Country Music Awards, Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” (Capitol Nashville) held at No. 2, moving 76,000, reflecting an 8% decline.

Welsh metal band Bullet for My Valentine’s “Fever” (Jive) showed some first-week heat, entering at No. 3. Thrashy quartet delivered sales of 71,000 out of the box.

Teen dream Justin Bieber’s “My World 2.0” (Island) dipped a slot to No. 4, moving 69,000 (off 14%). Columbia’s “Iron Man 2” soundtrack, comprising classic AC/DC tunes, also slipped one rung to No. 5, shifting 52,000 (down 32%); pic hits screens Friday. Usher’s “Raymond V. Raymond” (LaFace) fell one position to No. 6, reaping 48,000 (off 8%.)

Melissa Etheridge’s “Fearless Love” (Island) debuted at No. 7. Singer-songwriter’s collection — her first non-seasonal studio set in three years — arrives with a 46,000-unit opening frame.

Having literally grown up on camera, “iCarly” star Miranda Cosgrove is making her mark with tween fans: Her Columbia debut “Sparks Fly” bowed at No. 8, racking up first-week sales of 36,000.

Top 10 is rounded out by compilation “Now 33,” which dropped three positions to No. 9 with 30,000 sold (off 17%), and the “Glee” cast’s “The Power of Madonna,” which tumbled nine slots to No. 10 with 29,000 sold (declining 70%).

New titles by Godsmack, Toni Braxton, the Deftones and ex-Dixie Chicks unit the Court Yard Hounds will vie for big debuts next week.
