For lovers of the most obscure and thrilling figures in American music, there’s no festival more exciting than Ponderosa Stomp. Presented by the New Orleans-based non-profit Ponderosa Stomp Foundation, the fest has announced some of the talent for its Crescent City event, to be held Sept. 25-26 at House of Blues in New Orleans; a New York show, Detroit Breakdown, has been set for July 31 at Lincoln Center.
A short film about the Stomp and its mission, with founding father Ira “Dr. Ike” Padnos and performing mainstays Roy Head and Lil Buck Sinegal, can be seen here at the organization’s Web site. Performers at this year’s fest will include twangy guitar killer Duane Eddy, East L.A. rockers Thee Midniters, Midwestern surf kings the Trashmen, Western swing fiddle star Johnny Gimble and Delta bluesman David Honeyboy Edwards. Dozens of acts are featured every year.
