Musician nabs Songwriter of the Year at kudos

Nate “Danja” Hills won top honors at the 14th Annual SESAC New York Music Awards when he was named Songwriter of the Year. Hills also claimed the Song of the Year kudo for “Knock You Down,” the Keri Hilson hit that topped Billboard’s r&b/hip hop song chart.

As part of the Wednesday-night festivities at Gotham’s IAC Building, Russell Simmons presented the Inspiration Award to artist/songwriter/producer Kasseem “Swizz Beatz” Dean for his disaster aid effort, “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour),” co-written and co-produced with U2′s Bono, who recorded the top-selling iTunes download with Jay-Z and Rihanna.

SESAC Publisher of the Year honors went to Danjahandz Muzik, the publishing company for Hills, who has worked with Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Nelly Furtado.

The 2010 awards fete doled out more than 40 songwriter and publisher awards in the categories of pop, r&b/hip-hop and rock, with more than 400 songwriters, publishers and other assorted music pros in attendance.
