Music biz rises to the occasion

The biz comes together to benefit flood victims.

The music biz is coming together to support “Nashville Rising,” Tuesday’s all-star concert to benefit victims of recent flooding in Nashville and other parts of Tennessee.

In an uncommon show of unity among competitors, the country’s biggest concert promoters — AEG Live, Live Nation Entertainment, Messina Group and Outback Concerts — have pitched in to lend operational support for the event, organized and hosted by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

The show, set for Bridgestone Arena in Music City, has a glittering lineup that includes Taylor Swift, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus, ZZ Top, Leann Rimes and Brooks & Dunn.

McGraw and Hill reached out to their music-biz peers after record rainfall in early May spawned devastating flooding that inundated central Tennessee, causing an estimated $2 billion in damage and 21 deaths.

Nashville’s music community was especially hard-hit after the Cumberland River overflowed into the city. The Grand Ole Opry House was damaged, and the Country Music Hall of Fame was surrounded by water. And numerous local pickers lost vintage instruments and gear. The Bridgestone facility itself suffered some external structural damage.

Proceeds go to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, a Nashville-based nonprofit that has been active in flood relief efforts. Organizers hope the event will bring in more than $1 million. (More info: cfmt.org)
