Veteran exec Jonathan McHugh has been named senior vp of film, TV and soundtracks at Island Def Jam Music Group.
L.A.-based McHugh is charged with developing placements for IDJ acts in film, TV and video games. He will report jointly to IDJ president-chief operating officer Steve Bartels and chairman Antonio “LA” Reid.
McHugh most recently founded headed Song Stew Entertainment, an independent film and TV production and music supervision company. The company’s projects included Lions Gate’s “Repo: The Genetic Opera,” “Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror,” Lifetime’s “Flying By” and Discovery’s “Battle Ground Earth,” which co-starred IDJ’s rap star Ludacris.
McHugh previously served as vp of visual media at Zomba Label Group, where he launched Zomba Films and co-produced the Britney Spears vehicle “Crossroads,” and as vp of soundtracks at New Line Cinema, where he co-produced the soundtracks for “The Wedding Singer,” “Rush Hour,” “Austin Powers” and “Blade.”
He began his career in the marketing and promotion departments at Elektra and A&M.
