In the wake of Arizona’s hard-line immigration law, Los Lobos has decided to nix their scheduled performance at The Talking Stick Resort on June 10.
The L.A.-based band — consisting of Steve Berlin, David Hidalgo, Conrad Lozano, Cesar Rosas and Louie Perez — follows in the footsteps of fellow Angelenos Ozomatli, Columbia artists Shakira and Juanes, as well as Mexican norteno band Los Tigres del Norte, Sonic Youth and Kanye West.
“We support the boycott of Arizona,” said the band in a statement. “The new law will inevitably lead to unfair racial profiling and possible abuse of people who just happen to look Latino. As a result, in good conscience, we could not see ourselves performing in Arizona. We regret the inconvenience this may have caused the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, Casino Arizona, Talking Stick Resort and our fans, but we feel strongly that it is the right thing to do.”
If there are any artists in the music biz who support the Arizona law, none have stepped forward.
