Teen pop star pops with 'My World 2.0'

Teenthrob Justin Bieber vaults to the top of the U.S. album chart this week with his new “My World 2.0.”

The 16-year-old pop vocalist’s fresh Island release scored a first-week tally of 283,000 units sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week ending March 28. Bieber’s 2009 release “My World” also jumped five chart slots to No. 5, racking up a 50% increase and a 50,000-unit frame.

R&B singer Monica’s “Still Standing” (J Records) stands tall with a No. 2 bow. Propelled by the No. 1 single “Everything to Me,” set blasts in with a 184,000-unit stanza.

“Now That’s What I Call Music 33,” the latest multi-label hits compilation, enters at No. 4 with 135,000 sold. Capitol-distributed collection sports popular singles by Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum, among others.

Country triumvirate Antebellum’s sophomore disc “Need You Now” (Capitol Nashville) falls three posts to No. 4, dipping 16% in a 78,000-unit week.

Week’s other top 10 debut was “Vol. 2,” new offering from actress-singer Zooey Deschanel and singer-guitarist M. Ward. In at No. 6, indie-rock entry sold 47,000 copies.

Filling out the top 10 are Ludacris’ “Battle of the Sexes” (No. 7, 45,000 units, down 27%), Gaga’s “The Fame” (No. 8, 41,000, down 15%), Marvin Sapp’s “Here I Am” (No. 9, 39,000, down 48%) and the Black Eyed Peas’ “The E.N.D.” (No. 10, 34,000, down 11%).

New sets by Usher, Erykah Badu and Wu Massacre stand a shot at hitting No. 1 next week.
