Stage version of Fox tuner will hit three cities next summer
McKinley High’s New Directions is going on a European field trip: The cast of “Glee” will take its live show to the U.K. next summer.
After mounting successful American arena dates in four cities last year, the Fox series’ stage spin-off “Glee Live! in Concert” will hit Manchester’s MEN Arena (June 22), London’s O2 Arena (June 25-26) and Dublin’s O2 Arena (July 2-3).
Performers will include Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Kevn McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Mark Salling, Diana Agron, Naya Rivera, Heather Morris, Chord Overstreet, Darren Criss and Harry Shum Jr.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, with an exclusive window for American Express cardholders beginning Nov. 22.
Co-creator Ryan Murphy said in a statement, “People around the world want to see our cast live and in person, so this European tour is our way of thanking them for the unbelievable way they’ve embraced our little show.”
The all-American musical show has been embraced by “Gleeks” on British soil. Cast’s hit recordings have found similar success overseas: Their version of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” repeated its top five U.S. success in England earlier this year, leading a flood of other “Glee” songs onto the chart there.
“Glee Live!” bowed in Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix and New York in 2009.
In Fox’s announcement of the U.K. dates, Murphy coyly hinted that more American concert performances are on the horizon: “(F)or everyone in America who has asked if we’ll be back to a city near them this summer, stay tuned. We’ll have some exciting news very soon.”
