Grab a look at a snazzy video press kit for Robert Plant’s new album “Band of Joy,” due Sept. 14 from Rounder Records. It’s the ex-Led Zeppelin front man’s first release since his 2007 duo project with Alison Krauss, “Raising Sand,” which won the Grammy for album of the year.
Besides previewing snatches of several of the new record’s tracks (co-produced by Plant and the great Buddy Miller), the video piece attractively displays Plant’s intelligence, good taste and broad knowledge of American music. (He enthuses over George “Bongo Joe” Coleman, an obscure Houston musician who accompanied himself by beating on oil drums.)
The extended clip leads off with a slice of “Angel Dance,” Plant’s cover of the Los Lobos tune, which features the band’s Louie Perez and David Hidalgo. The full video (co-starring Perez and Hidalgo, seen chauffeuring Plant through East L.A.) is available here.
This one sounds like a winner.
