Exec shuffle at Blue Note

New posts for Lundvall, Ralfini at EMI label

Bruce Lundvall, veteran executive at EMI Music’s Blue Note Records, has been elevated to chairman emeritus of the label, and Ian Ralfini has been installed as Blue Note president, succeeding Lundvall.

Ralfini was most recently general manager and senior VP of Manhattan Records, the EMI imprint Lundvall founded in 1984. He will direct Blue Note’s day-to-day operations out of New York and report to Nick Gatfield, EMI prexy for new music in North America and the U.K.

Lundvall will continue to sign and develop talent for Blue Note. His biggest signing at the label is singer-songwriter Norah Jones, who has sold more than 40 million albums and collected nine Grammy Awards.

During his 25 years at Blue Note, Lundvall has worked with such talents as Stanley Jordan, Natalie Cole, Richard Marx, Bobby McFerrin, Dexter Gordon, US3, Al Green and Willie Nelson.

Previously, Lundvall had a distinguished 21-year career at Columbia Records; he ultimately headed CBS Records’ domestic division and was instrumental in building the company’s jazz roster. He founded Manhattan after two years at Elektra, where he was president of the Elektra/Musician and Elektra/Asylum/Nonesuch labels.

In the U.K., Ralfini signed such acts as Fleetwood Mac, America, Rod Stewart and the Faces.
