The singer, who has charted nearly 80 country singles, is prepping his first comedy album, “You Ain’t Gonna Believe This…,” which Toby Keith’s Show Dog Records, a Universal-distributed imprint, will unleash Sept. 21.
Over the years, Tillis’ live and TV performances have been distinguished by their high comedy quotient; the self-effacing vocalist has always made fun of his own pronounced stutter as part of his gag-filled act. In the release announcing the new album, Tillis says, ““As one who stutters, humor has very much been a part of my whole life. As a matter of fact, it’s been my crutch.”
Tillis has also been a regular on the big screen, appearing in such redneck classics as “Smokey and the Bandit II,” “Cannonball Run” and “Cannonball Run II” (plus Keith’s none-too-successful movie vehicle “Beer For My Horses”) and the yahoo-friendly TV series “The Dukes of Hazzard.” As comics go, he’s a natural.
