Bieber’s CD bobbing at No. 1

'World' fends off challenge from MGMT's 'Congratulations'

Teen dream Justin Bieber held onto the No. 1 slot on the national album chart last week, fending off mild entries from a couple of new rock releases.

Bieber’s “My World 2.0” (Island) clung to the apex in its fourth chart week with sales of 92,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week ending Sunday. Collection tracked a 10% loss. Bieber’s other top 10 album, his debut “My World,” dipped two positions to No. 10 with flat sales of 30,000.

Only title to muster anything like a challenge last week was MGMT’s sophomore release “Congratulations” (Columbia), which opened at No. 2. New York alternative duo, fresh from a high-profile appearance at Coachella last weekend, tracked first-week sales of 66,000. It was tops among five titles from the Sony Music Entertainment family in the top 10 last week.

Lady Antebellum, which picked up five Country Music Awards Sunday, witnessed a 15% boost for its second album “Need You Now” (Capitol Nashville). Package climbed a notch to No. 3 and shifted 65,000 for the week.

R&B star Usher’s “Raymond V. Raymond” (LaFace) fell two rungs to No. 4 in its third chart week. Title moved 64,000, marking a 31% decline.

Week’s other top 10 bow was Coheed & Cambria’s “Year of the Black Rainbow,” in at No. 5. Heavy high-concept New York band logged debut sales of 51,000 units.

EMI-distributed hits disc “Now 33” slid one position to No. 6, reaping sales of 45,000 (off 15%). Lady Gaga’s “The Fame” (Interscope) maintains at No. 7, tallying 32,000 units (down 3%) in its 77th chart week.

Biggest gainer for the week was Ke$ha’s “Animal,” which saw a 31% lift and clambered up to No. 8 behind singer’s “Saturday Night Live” appearance. Title moved 31,000.

R&B vocalist Monica’s “Still Standing” slipped three poles to No. 9, moving 30,000 (down 21%).

A third collection of music from the Fox TV hit “Glee” should make a dent in the next chart.
