Singer and wife honored with org's Foundation Champion kudo

Tony Bennett and his wife, Susan Benedetto, were honored Wednesday night with ASCAP’s Foundation Champion Award for their efforts to strengthen the arts in public education.

At the 15th annual ceremony, held at New York’s Lincoln Center, ASCAP Foundation president Paul Williams also honored a wide variety of scholarship and award recipients who have benefitted from the foundation.

In 1999, Bennett and Benedetto founded the nonprofit Exploring the Arts, which has grown from serving one New York public high school to seven in 2010. They also founded the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, Queens.

The ASCAP Foundation was founded in 1975 with the intent of supporting American aspiring musicians and encouraging their development through music education and talent development programs.
