A holiday barbeque, courtesy of Dave Alvin

There’s no better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than with a barbeque, and that’s exactly what Dave Alvin and his crew do in the vintage video for his classic song “Fourth of July.”

Alvin recorded the song for his debut solo album “Romeo’s Escape,” released in 1987 by Epic. His version was eclipsed by one cut the same year by X for the L.A. punk band’s Elektra album “See How We Are”; the group’s lineup on that set included both Alvin and Tony Gilkyson on guitars, replacing founding member Billy Zoom.

The clip is worth viewing just to catch a glimpse of Alvin’s mountainous bassist Gi T. manning the barby in a grass skirt.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday.
