Thom Yorke names solo band, confirms tour

Radiohead singer says Atoms for Peace will play U.S. in April

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has given a name to his all-star side project: Atoms for Peace.

The band, which consists of Yorke, longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Flea, Mauro Refosco, and Joey Waronker, has also confirmed an eight-show U.S. tour leading up to its Coachella appearance on April 18.

The group will play New York, Boston, Chicago, and Santa Barbara, CA before heading to Indio, CA for the annual music and arts festival.

Previously billed as Thom Yorke????, the quintet played a string of small gigs in Los Angeles this past October with material largely focusing on Yorke’s 2006 solo debut, “The Eraser.” The nine-track LP, produced by Godrich and released on XL Recordings, received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album and was up for U.K.’s prestigious Mercury Prize the same year.

Atoms for Peace, a special nuclear program started by President Eisenhower in the 50s, is also the name of the sixth track on “The Eraser.”

Yorke made the announcement this morning on Radiohead’s official website.
