The American Federation of Musicians and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists are the latest unions to endorse the newly formed Assn.of Media Composers and Lyricists in their attempt to organize a union through Teamsters Local 399.
AFM president Tom Lee and AFTRA national exec director Kim Roberts Hedgpeth signed a joint statement on Wednesday offering “expressions of support to the film and television composers and lyricists in their efforts to organize,” adding that “the entire entertainment industry benefits when creative individuals have union representation.”
AFM represents musicians (including performers, orchestrators, conductors and copyists) and AFTRA represents vocalists who perform on scores.
Composers who have publicly endorsed the effort include James Horner, David Shire, Marc Shaiman, Marco Beltrami and John Debney. Aaron Sorkin has also endorsed.
