Cheap Trick set for SXSW

Vet pop-rock act is music fest's first announced headliner

Cheap Trick has been announced as the first headlining attraction at the 2010 South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas.

Veteran Rockford, Ill. pop-rock quartet will play a March 19 gig at Auditorium Shores on Ladybird Lake. Milwaukee’s BoDeans will open the show, which is free and open to the public.

Active for 35 years, Cheap Trick issued its most recent studio album, aptly titled “The Latest,” in 2009. Group also issued a CD of its live performance of the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” last year.

SXSW runs March 17-21, with conference panels at the Austin Convention Center. More than 1,800 acts will perform at the annual industry hoedown.
