Third installment in series earns $41 million on Friday

Score another hit for Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the “Toy Story” clan.

Toy Story 3,” the third installment from Disney/Pixar in the animated series, earned about $41 million on Friday in 4,058 runs, which includes 180 IMAX screens. It topped Sony’s “Karate Kid,” which stayed strong and grabbed the No. 2 spot, taking in an estimate of $8.9 million in 3,663 engagements.

Fox’s “The A-Team” took the No. 3 spot on Friday, earning about $3.9 million in 3,544 runs, while DreamWorks “Shrek Forever After” took in about $2.5 million in 3,207 engagements.

“Jonah Hex,” the new Warner Bros. film, rounded out the top five, earning about $2 million in 2,825 runs. Universal’s comedy “Get Him To The Greek” earned about $1.8 million in 2,592 runs, while the Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher starrer, “Killers,” tailed it for the No. 7 spot with an estimate of $1.7 million in 2,619 engagements.

Disney’s “Prince of Persia” took in about $1.6 million on Friday in 2,605 runs for the No. 8 spot, while Warner Bros. pic “Sex And The City 2″ earned about $900,000 in 1,680 engagements. Fox’s “Marmaduke” finished in the No. 10 spot on Friday with an estimate of $700,000 in 2,495 runs.
