‘Inception’ retains top spot at Friday B.O.

'Salt' is a close second to the Nolan mindbender

For the second Friday in a row, Chris Nolan’s “Inception” dreams up the No. 1 spot.

The Leonardo DiCaprio starrer grabbed $13.3 million in 3,792 engagements for Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures film. Angelina Jolie’s “Salt” (Sony) spiced up the box office, earning $12.7 million in 3,612 runs.

Universal’s “Despicable Me” earned $7.3 million in 3,600 engagements, while Disney’s “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” earned about $2.9 million. The family friendly “Ramona and Beezus” earned Fox the No. 6 spot, bringing in roughly $2.9 million for the No. 5 spot.

Disney’s “Toy Story 3” came in at No. 6, bringing in $2.6 million in 2,766 runs. Sony’s “Grown Ups’ chased it for the No. 7 position, grabbing about $2.4 million in 2,859 engagements and Summit’s “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” took No. 8 with $2.3 million in 3,121 runs. Rounding out the bottom two were Paramount’s “The Last Airbender” ($1.2 million in 2,127 engagements) and Fox’s “Predators” (an estimated $821,000 in 1,846 runs).
