‘Back-up Plan’ wins Friday box office

Lopez starrer takes in an estimated $4.2 million.

Jennifer Lopez’s baby mama pic, “The Back-up Plan,” topped a modest Friday at the box office. The CBS Films romcom earned an estimated $4.2 million in 3,280 runs.

It’s chased by Paramount and DreamWorks Animation’s “How to Train Your Dragon.” The 3D toon stays strong as it enters its fifth frame, earning the No. 2 spot with an estimate of $3.7 million on Friday in 3,665 releases. It’s a toss-up for the No. 3 spot: Warner Bros. actioner, “The Losers” earned about $3.3 million in 2,936 runs and Twentieth Century Fox’s “Date Night” also gathered about $3.3 million in 3,294 releases.

Rounding out the top 5 is Lionsgate’s “Kick-Ass,” which collected about $2.9 million in 3,065 runs.

Another 3D pic, “Clash of the Titans,” (Warner Bros.) claimed the No. 6 spot with an estimate of $2.3 million in 3,271 runs, while Sony’s “Death at a Funeral,” earned an estimate of $2.4 million in 2,459 runs. Disney grabbed the last bottom three films with “Oceans” (about $2.1 million in 1,206 runs), “The Last Song” (about $1.2 million in 2,794 runs) and “Alice in Wonderland (about $596,000 in 1,385 runs).
