Commercial producers of Off Broadway tuner “Yank!” aim to get the show to Broadway during the 2010-11 season.
Musical, a WWII-set tale about two soldiers who fall in love, is coming off a popular run at Off Broadway’s York Theater, where the show ends its extended run Sunday.
The Main Stem incarnation, to be capitalized at about $5 million, will be produced by a commercial team that includes Maren Berthelsen, Karl Held, Pamela Koslow and Stuart Wilk.
“Yank!” was one of several gay-themed productions to hit the Gotham legit scene in the spring. Current Broadway offering “Next Fall,” which also originated in a well-sold Off Broadway run, bowed to glowing notices March 11 but has not yet seen a major surge at the B.O. (although sales have nonetheless steadily grown).
No details regarding cast, theater or production timeline for “Yank!” have been firmed up. The York version, helmed by Igor Goldin, starred Bobby Steggert and Ivan Hernandez, among others.
