Wilson’s ‘Turner’ set for London

Play will begin previews on May 27

A new production of “Joe Turner’s Come And Gone,” the second of August Wilson’s Pittsburgh cycle of plays, will begin previews at London’s Young Vic theater on May 27. The play will be helmed by the theater’s a.d. David Lan, with casting yet to be announced.

The Young Vic currently has a Gotham presence with “The Enchanted Pig,” an opera for young people by Jonathan Dove and Alastair Middleton, playing a limited engagement at Gotham’s New Victory Theater in a co-production with The Opera Group and the Royal Opera House 2.

The maverick London theater, recently nommed for an Olivier award for Richard Jones’ iconoclastic production of “Annie Get Your Gun,” is also currently searching for a new executive director following the ankling of Gregory Nash after just three months.

“Joe Turner” was revived on Broadway last year, in a production that made news when President Obama and his wife spent their date night at the show.
