Jonathan Groff to make U.K. stage premiere
LONDON — Brit helmer Matthew Warchus (“The God of Carnage,” “Boeing-Boeing”) will direct the first London revival of Ira Levin’s 1978 thriller “Deathtrap” at the Noel Coward Theater on Sept. 7, following previews from Aug. 21.
Produced by David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers (“Art,” “God of Carnage”), it stars Simon Russell Beale, Anna Massey and, in his U.K. stage premiere, Jonathan Groff (“Spring Awakening”) who is currently appearing in season 2 of “Glee.” Groff’s presence suggests a Broadway transfer is in the cards.
Warchus is joined by set and costume designer Rob Howell, lighting designer Hugh Vanstone and composer Gary Yershon, who previously worked together on Warchus’s Tony-winning revival of “The Norman Conquests.”
Warchus is currently prepping the London revival of David Hirson’s comedy “La Bete,” starring Mark Rylance and David Hyde Pierce, which transfers to a Gotham theater in September 2010.
