Rachel Kolar and Lauren Brown, the multihyphenates behind and in front of “New,” an experimental rock opera at the Million Dollar Theater, crafted an after-party scene Friday night at the Standard in downtown Los Angeles not unlike Andy Warhol’s infamous factory, swarming with fur-coat and gold lame-clad types.
The event filled nearly half of the 2,345 historic seats at the venue, the Million Dollar Theater, which may or may not have been a result of the ticket price. Free.
We had a range of audience,” Kolar said, “from families to homeless men and women.” This range, however, was absent from the party. – Lisa Engelbrektson
