Tonys head to Beacon

Ceremony shifts from Radio City to Upper West Side venue

The Tony Awards ceremony has landed a new venue, with legit’s top kudofest shifting to the Beacon Theater for its June 2011 edition.

Ceremony was displaced from its previous home, Radio City Music Hall, by “Zarkana,” the new Cirque du Soleil show set to occupy the Radio City stage for the summer. Several other venues besides the Upper West Side’s Beacon were under consideration for the Tonys’ new home, including venues much farther uptown.

Eligibility cutoff for the 2011 Tonys has been set for April 28, with the ceremony skedded for June 12.
