Puppet improv offering “Stuffed and Unstrung,” an adult-oriented comedy show from Henson Alternative, will play a ten-week run this spring at Off Broadway’s Union Square Theater.
“Stuffed” is created by Brian Henson, the director-producer-writer who is chairman of the Jim Henson Company, and Patrick Bristow.
Bristow directs and hosts the show, in which six puppeteers improvise a series of songs and sketches based on interactions with the aud. Puppet hijinks are filmed and projected on screens at either side of the stage, while the puppeteers perform onstage in full view of the audience.
Henson, the exec producer of “Stuffed,” also will be one of the performers in the show.
Production grew out of an earlier adult-oriented improv outing, “Puppet Up! — Uncensored,” which had 2006 stints at the HBO Comedy Fest and the Edinburgh Fest and a run as part of the 2007 Comedy Fest in Vegas. “Puppet Up!” also has been seen in Australia and in monthly workshops at Avalon Hollywood.
“Stuffed” reps a new, revamped version of that previous show, with new tech and music elements.
WestBeth Entertainment produces with Henson Alternative, the Henson Company label that creates content targeted specifically for adults.
“Stuffed and Unstrung” runs March 17-May 29, with an official opening set for April 1.
