New comedy will open theater's 2010-11 season

Second Stage Theater is opening its 2010-11 season with the world preem of a new play by 2009 Pulitzer prizewinner Lynn Nottage titled “By the Way, Meet Vera Stark.” Comedy follows an African-American maid and her relationship with her boss, a fading Hollywood star.

Also on the slate: “Gruesome Playground Injuries,” a dark romance by 2010 Pulitzer finalist Rajiv Joseph, which follows two childhood friends over 30 years of their relationship. Final offering for the season will be a new production of Arthur Kopit’s 1978 play “Wings,” a play about a 1920’s airshow performer.

“Wings” will be helmed by Brit helmer John Doyle, widely acclaimed for his reinterpretations of Sondheim Musicals. Scott Ellis will direct “Injuries.” Helmer for “Vera Stark” is TBA.
