‘Rocket Boys’ blast off for Gotham

Industry readings set for next week

The tuner version of “Rocket Boys,” the book on which 1999 pic “October Sky” was based, will get a pair of industry readings in Gotham next week.

The readings, with a cast that includes smallscreen vet Robert Picardo, reps an attempt to drum up interest in a New York staging of the musical, which bowed in Hunstville, Ala., in 2008.

Based on the memoir by Homer Hickam, “Rocket Boys” follows a coal miner’s son who takes an interest in rocketry and goes on to become a NASA scientist. Part was played by Jake Gyllenhaal in the movie version.

Diana Belkowski and Dan Tramon wrote the show’s score. Carl Anthony Tramon, who co-wrote the book with Hickam, directs a cast that includes Mark McVey, Andre Ward, Brooke Sunny Moriber and Terri Klausner.

Readings are skedded for Monday.
