Ricky Martin to star in ‘Evita’

Broadway revival targets spring 2012 opening

Ricky Martin is set to star in a Broadway revival of “Evita,” co-starring Argentinean actress and West End vet Elena Roger.

Produced by Hal Luftig and Scott Sanders, staging is a transfer of a 2006 London production in which Roger gave a breakout perf. Michael Grandage reprises his directorial duties, with Rob Ashford on board again as choreographer.

Staging will rep Roger’s Main Stem debut, but not Martin’s — the pop star appeared as Marius during the original Rialto run of “Les Miserables.”

Revival is targeting a spring 2012 opening in a Nederlander theater yet to be determined.
