'Gigi,' 'Song,' 'Kate' are all on tap

Tuners “They’re Playing Our Song,” “Gigi” and “Kiss Me, Kate” are on tap for the 2010-11 season at L.A.’s Reprise Theater Company.

Jason Alexander, a.d. of Reprise, will star in “Song” (Sept. 28-Oct. 10), the 1978 tuner with book by Neil Simon, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager and music by Marvin Hamlisch. Story is based on the real-life romance between Sager and Hamlisch.

David Lee will direct “Gigi” (Feb. 15-27, 2011), the 1973 Lerner and Loewe musical based on the Colette novel and the 1958 movie tuner. Plot follows a young girl in turn-of-the-century Paris and her relationship with a bachelor.

“Kiss Me, Kate” (May 10-22, 2011), the 1948 musical about a theater troupe staging “The Taming of the Shrew,” rounds out the season. Show features Cole Porter songs and a book by Samuel and Bella Spewack.

Full casting and other details remain to be announced for. All three productions will play UCLA’s Freud Playhouse.
