‘Rent’ road tour to shutter

National run will end in February

The current national tour of “Rent” will shutter in February after more than a year on the road.

Latest road production went out in January 2009 following the end of the tuner’s 12-year Broadway run in September 2008. Show starred Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp and Gwen Stewart, reprising roles they originated in the tuner’s 1996 Off Broadway bow and subsequent Broadway transfer.

Rent” has been one of the more enduring legit titles launched in the last 15 years. In the U.S., the Tony-winning Broadway run has spawned a number of road incarnations, both Equity and non-Equity.

A 2005 film version tanked at the B.O. but nonetheless helped boost sales for the Broadway incarnation.

The latest road version — produced by Jeffrey Seller, Kevin McCollum and Allan S. Gordon, who also produced the Main Stem version — will have played 39 cities in its 13-month run. Final perf will be Feb. 7 in Sacramento.
