Randy Newman enjoyed the Nov. 21 opening of his “Harps and Angels” at L.A.’s Mark Taper Forum, with an after-party at Chaya. While the Taper crowd loved the musical revue, Newman wouldn’t speculate whether the show (and numbers like “I Love L.A.”) would move to Broadway, shrugging, “I don’t know what it’s going to do.”

The composer, who’s mostly worked in film and TV, said of theater, “It’s a great kind of world, it’s like the circus.” – – — Shalini Dore
