Playwrights collective scores big grant

13P nabs Mellon Foundation funds for final four shows

Playwrights collective 13P, founded in 2003 to produce one play by each of its 13 members, has scored a hefty grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to stage its final four shows.

Coin will fund plays by member scribes Sarah Ruhl, Young Jean Lee, Madeleine George and Erin Courtney over the next two seasons. The exact sum of the grant was not disclosed, and the titles and dates of upcoming 13P offerings remain to be announced.

The collective — which includes Anne Washburn, Sheila Callaghan, Lucy Thurber, Winter Miller and Rob Handel, among others — intends to disband after all 13 plays are produced.
