“Pandemonium: The Lost and Found Orchestra” re-creates sections of a traditional symphony orchestra with found-object instruments including bottles, traffic cones and toys. Each stop of the tour will include the contributions of a local choir of about 30.
Show is created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, the Brits who also co-created “Stomp,” the percussion show that has been playing Off Broadway since 1994. “Stomp” reps a notably successful example of an Off Broadway show carving out a sustainable commercial foothold for itself, thanks in large part to movement and sound-based spectacle that can overcome language barriers to appeal to tourists from all over the globe.
Cresswell serves as conductor for “Pandemonium,” which is performed by a company of some 50 members. The show launched in 2006 at the U.K.’s Brighton Festival and also has played Sydney, London and Amsterdam.
North American tour of “Pandemonium” launches in Miami on Sept. 16, with further stops on the sked including Philadelphia, Toronto and Chicago.
