Outer Critics Circle noms announced

'Memphis,' 'Royal Family' lead the pack

“Memphis” and “The Royal Family” led the Outer Critics Circle noms for the 2009-10 season, with each show drawing seven nods apiece.

“Memphis” joins a new Broadway tuner race that includes “American Idiot,” “Come Fly Away,” “Fela!” and “Sondheim on Sondheim.” Rialto category for new play includes “Next Fall,” “Red,” “Superior Donuts” and “Time Stands Still.”

“Royal Family” is among a list of nommed Broadway play revivals including “Fences,” “Lend Me a Tenor” and “A View from the Bridge.” “La Cage aux Folles,” “A Little Night Music,” “Promises, Promises” and the now-defunct “Finian’s Rainbow” were tapped for Broadway tuner revival.

Among the Off Broadway nominees are tuners “Yank!” and “The Scottsboro Boys,” both likely heading for the Rialto.

Winners will be announced May 17.
