Kelli O’Hara and Will Chase will topline the upcoming Encores! revival of “Bells Are Ringing,” helmed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall.
Bobby Canna-vale, Dylan Baker, David Pittu, Judy Kaye and Brad Oscar also are among the cast of the 1956 tuner with music by Jule Styne and book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green.
The Encores! series, City Center’s annual presentation of semi-staged musicals, has yielded a number of commercial Broadway transfers in the past. The long-running revival of “Chicago” originated as part of the Encores! program, as did “Wonderful Town,” “The Apple Tree” and last season’s “Finian’s Rainbow.”
O’Hara reteams with Marshall after she starred opposite Harry Connick Jr. in the helmer’s popular 2006 revival of “The Pajama Game.”
“Bells” follows the adventures of a telephone operator who gets entangled in the lives of callers. It’s set to play City Center Nov. 18-21. Tuners “Lost in the Stars” and “Where’s Charley?” also are on tap for the Encores! season.
