Gameshow tops basic cable in 2-11 and 6-11 demos
Nickelodeon has lit the fuse on a second season of “BrainSurge,” ordering 40 episodes of the kid-friendly gameshow.Production on season two will begin in the spring, with host Jeff Sutphen returning. The season premiere hasn’t been set yet but will come no later than this summer. Airing weekdays at 4:30 p.m., “BrainSurge” is basic cable’s top audience-grabber in the 2-11 and 6-11 demos, with its audience among those groups rising nearly 20% since its premiere. Contestants compete in games that test memory and concentration, for a grand prize that includes a trademark Nickelodeon sliming. Series also features an interactive element that allows home viewers to play online. Clay Newbill (310 Entertainment), Scott A. Stone (Stone & Co. Entertainment) and David A. Hurwitz exec produce “BrainSurge,” which is adapted from Tokyo Broadcasting System’s “Brain Survivor.”
