Names bring a ‘Steady Rain’ of coin

Jackman, Craig starrer boasts big B.O.

The 2000-10 season definitively proved that a hit play can gross like a musical, if it has the right ingredients: star casting, a demand-boosting limited run and premium-priced tickets.

Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig brought in $15.2 million in 13 weeks for “A Steady Rain,” while Jude Law spurred “Hamlet” ($10 million in 13 weeks) and Liev Schreiber and Scarlett Johansson helped sell “A View From the Bridge” ($10.9 million in 14 weeks).

Broadway can’t wait to see the coin that Denzel Washington produces during his limited run in the soon-to-open “Fences.”
