Murphy tunes up for ‘Whistle’

Actress to co-star in Sondheim-Laurents musical

Donna Murphy will co-star with Sutton Foster in the City Center Encores! production of 1964 Stephen Sondheim-Arthur Laurents tuner “Anyone Can Whistle.”

Tony winner Murphy (“Passion,” “The King and I”) has starred in previous Encores! outings including “Wonderful Town” (which later moved to Broadway) and “Follies,” another Sondheim musical directed by Casey Nicholaw, also the helmer of “Whistle.”

Murphy will play the town mayor in the satire of sixties American culture. The Encores! concert reading of the show runs April 8-11.
